What is haggis?

Traditional haggis is basically like an oaty, spicy mince and a great source of iron, fibre and carbohydrate with no artificial colours, flavourings or preservatives.  Vegetarian haggis is a combination of healthy fresh vegetables, mushrooms, pulses, oats, onions and seeds. It is approved by the vegetarian society and is suitable for vegans, but is loved by meat-eaters too.

How will my haggis be packaged for delivery?

Macsween haggis is a fresh product and your order will be carefully hand-packed in in thermal packaging with gel ice packs to protect its unique taste.

What’s on a Burns Night menu?

A traditional Burns Supper starts with soup, often a Scottish broth. The haggis is then served with turnips and potatoes – known as neeps and tatties if you're a true Scot. The haggis, typically carried on a silver salver, is also piped in by the diners with a standing slow clap.

It is the "Great chieftain o the puddin’-race" according to the “Address to the haggis”. During the Address (also written by Burns) the speaker draws a knife and at the line “An’ cut you up wi’ ready slicht”, cuts the dish open. Once all the fanfare is over, the guests toast the haggis and tuck in.

How much haggis do I need for my Burns Night event?

If you are holding a traditional Burns Night event, begin by ordering a Macsween Chieftain Haggis which services 16 and can be piped in as part of the Address, and then traditional haggis catering packs and vegetarian catering haggis packs for the remainder of your guests.  Each pack serves 7 guests.
